GAME Plan Progress

My first goal is to become more proficient in facilitating the web conferencing tool Safari Montage Live. My students have been rehearsing their scripts all week long and have been applying the communicative and creative skills that are highlighted in second grade. A parent of one of my students is a communications professor at a nearby university. She actually came in this afternoon and taught a public speaking lesson to my class to prepare them for Friday's web conference. I have experimented with the equipment several times this week and have even held practice conferences with the other classroom teacher. I have been hard at work in accomplishing my first goal and I look forward to sharing the outcome with you all in the near future. I plan on focusing more attention to my second goal following the web conference.

  1. BrookeD,
What is the subject of your webconference? It sounds like you have really given your students a great performance based activity. Good luck with it! I hope you have better luck with your technology! At my professional development group on Wednesday, I was supposed to show my group a video of me teaching math to my class. It would not load from my district H drive. I could not load it to a thumb drive either! So good luck and remember the golden rule when working wit technology...be ready with Plan B! :)

  2. Brooke,
I also work in the same county and would love to hear more about this SafariMontage Live. I am looking forward to hearing more about this assignment. What kind of rubric will you be using for this performance-based activity?

  3. Brooke, have you ever used the Safari Montage Live? I've been trying to decide which would be better or easier to use between that and Skype. That is awesome that you have given your students such an in-depth background before they try this activity. Good luck!

  4. Brooke,
I can tell that you have put a lot of time and energy into this assignment. Teaching 2nd graders these skills is impressive, and I am sure you will be a teacher they remember. In addition, I think it is wonderful that you are attempting such a time consuming project at the end of the school year. I know that teachers in my building are doing class performances for the parents, but none have mentioned anything like your project.
Do any of the other teachers in your building incorporate a similar project using technology? If not, this would be a great way to get more teachers in your building excited about new technology. Maybe you could even put on a small workshop to teach your colleagues how to use Safari Montage Live.

Keep up the great work and effort.

  5. Brooke,

I have never heard of Safari Montage Live. How does it work? I'm assuming it is a Mac based application. Is it similar to Skype? It sounds like you have been working very hard on this project for your students and you should be very proud of yourself! Not many teachers would take on a technology challenge with such young students! I'm impressed!!!

  6. Kerry,

The subject of my web conference is mosquitoes. My students have covered everything from the life cycle to how to create an unfriendly schoolyard for mosquitoes. We actually had the web conference on Friday and things ran smoother than I would ever have imagined. We did have a plan B just in case, but fortunately things turned out just the way we wanted them to!

  7. Cortney,

Thanks for your feedback. I am looking forward to sharing the link to the web conference with my colleagues at our next faculty meeting. We always build in "10 minutes for tech" in order to discuss ways that we have infused technology into our curriculum.

  8. Wow! It looks like your really progressing with your goal. It looks like you have really spent some time prepping your students for this assignment. What did the students think of the assignment. I would think that they would really enjoyed this process. In my experience, students are excited to use new technologies.
